
The San Diego Junior Theatre

Started in 1948 as an offshoot of the Old Globe Theatre, also in Balboa Park, the
53-year-old San Diego Junior Theatre showcases the city's youthful talent through
stageplays. Youths from eight years old to 18 act, dance and sing in plays and musical
produced and directed by drama professionals at the Casa del Prado Theatre. The San Diego
Junior Theatre stages six shows per year at their theater located near the Museum of
Natural History and the Spanish Village Art Center.
The San Diego Junior Theatre 2001 Season
Just finishing the 2000 season with the play Nancy Drew, Girl Detective, the San Diego
Junior Theatre have five other great shows for 2001: The Miracle Worker, Schoolhouse Rock,
Winnie the Pooh, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and the classic Guys and Dolls.
The Miracle Worker is the story of Helen Keller's amazing teacher, Annie Sullivan. Show
dates are: Jan. 1-3, 4-6 and 7-9.
The Magic Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle is the story of a woman with a special gift of curing
children's bad habits. Show dates: Feb. 23-25, March 2-4, 9-11.
Schoolhouse Rock is play based on the wildly popular 1970s television cartoon that taught
kids about language and U.S. history. Who can forget Conjunction Junction or I'm Just a
Bill? Show dates: April 13-15, 20-22, 27-29.
Everyone's favorite stuffed bear Winnie the Pooh takes to the stage on the following
dates: July 6-8, 13-15, 20-22.
Broadway favorite Guys and Dolls is showing on the following dates: Aug. 3-5, 10-12.
Friday night performances start at 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday shows start at 2 p.m.
Hours of Operation and Location
The San Diego Junior Theatre is located in Balboa Park at 1650 El Prado. Ticket prices
range from $5 for children and seniors to $9 for adult seats in the orchestra section.
Full season ticket prices are: adult orchestra, $45; adult loge, $35; youth and senior
orchestra, $35; youth and senior loge $25. The Junior Theatre Box Office is open Monday
through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
